Diversity in a changing Europe: Challenge or Opportunity? Lecture 3

On June 15, Benjamin Zeeb, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of the Project for Democratic Union, gave a lecture at the Europa- Universität Flensburg on "Diversity in a changing Europe: Challenge or Opportunity?". The lecture was organised in cooperation with the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) and gave a unique opportunity to students as well as academic staff to have an in-depth discussion on current EU issues, the future of the Union and what diversity means to Europe.

During the lecture Mr. Zeeb spoke about the biggest challenges that the EU is facing now and how these issues might be solved. He also presented his book "Europa am Abgrund: Plädoyer für die Vereinigten Staaten von Europa". Among the main obstacle Mr. Zeeb pointed out the complicated relations with Russia and China, the growing sympathy towards eurosceptical populists in Member States and the importance of democracy in Europe.

The sensitive topic of the lecture prompted an intense discussion on how to approach the current EU problems and what changes should be done in the future. Looking at the question from different perspectives gave students a chance to get a more comprehensive and profound understanding of the current EU situation.
